Summers in Pune can be tough on your skin. With rising temperatures, strong sunlight, sweating, and pollution, it’s common to experience tanning, sunburn, acne breakouts, dehydration, and pigmentation.
The good news? With a few simple skincare habits, you can keep your skin healthy, fresh, and protected all summer long.
1. Don’t Skip Sunscreen – Ever
Sunscreen is your skin’s best defense against sun damage. Choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher to protect against both UVA and UVB rays.
Apply it at least 20 minutes before stepping out, and don’t forget to reapply every 2–3 hours, especially if you’re outdoors for long.
2. Cleanse Gently but Regularly
During summer, sweat, oil, and dust can easily clog your pores. Washing your face 2–3 times a day with a gentle cleanser helps keep your skin clean without stripping away its natural moisture.
Avoid harsh soaps or over-washing, as that can irritate your skin.
3. Switch to Lightweight Moisturizers
Many people think moisturizers aren’t needed in summer — but that’s a myth. Your skin still needs hydration.
Go for gel-based, oil-free, and non-comedogenic moisturizers that keep your skin hydrated without feeling heavy or greasy.
4. Stay Hydrated from Within
Healthy skin starts from inside. Drink plenty of water (around 2–3 litres daily) to prevent dehydration.
You can also include hydrating foods like watermelon, cucumber, and coconut water in your diet to support your skin naturally.
5. Protect Your Skin Physically
Skincare isn’t just about products — physical protection matters too.
Wear a wide-brim hat or cap
Use sunglasses to protect your eyes
Choose loose, breathable cotton clothes
Try to avoid direct sun exposure between 11 AM and 4 PM
These small steps can make a big difference.
6. Keep Summer Acne Under Control
Heat and sweating can trigger acne flare-ups. To prevent this:
Use oil-free skincare products
Avoid heavy makeup
Shower after excessive sweating
Keeping your skin clean and breathable helps reduce breakouts.
7. Don’t Forget Lips and Eyes
The delicate skin on your lips and around your eyes is more sensitive to sun damage.
Use a lip balm with SPF and wear good-quality sunglasses to protect these areas.
8. Avoid Over-Exfoliating
Exfoliation is helpful, but too much can damage your skin barrier. Over-scrubbing may lead to irritation, tanning, or even pigmentation.
Limit exfoliation to once or twice a week for best results.
Final Thoughts
Summer skin issues are common, but they can be easily managed with the right routine. Consistent sunscreen use, proper hydration, and gentle skincare go a long way in keeping your skin healthy.
If you notice persistent tanning, pigmentation, or acne that doesn’t improve, it’s best to consult a dermatologist for personalized treatment.
